As we know servo system become popular in IMM, power saving, fast response, precise and quiet, same to IMM machine, many SBM manufacturers start to use the servo motors instead of pneumatic cylinders. Is more servo motors the better?


Early this year, one customer discussed with us and mentioned one manufacturers offered him a stretch blow molding machine with 9 servo motors. The customer thought more servo motors used might bring more output and more energy saving. Is it true, or the customer was misguided?


Let us see the main necessary motions in a linear SBM machine:

  1. Preform transmission
  2. Blowing mold clamping
  3. Stretching
  4. Pitch changing (in new technology machine)
  5. Preform picking in and bottle picking out (in new technology machine)


An excellent design of machine is always with reasonable structure, to achieve high performance with necessary number parts. More servo motors does not mean faster and energy saving. To use too many servo motors is energy waste and design failure. Please see below:


Some manufacturers use 2 servo motors for mold clamping, because they are using old toggle structure from 2 sides, it has risk and problem of 2-side force unbalance, 2-side out-sync after some time running.

We use updated design with cam link structure, single servo motor, faster, stronger and equal clamping force. Without the problem of unbalance and out-sync. No waste of extra motor.

Some manufacturers use servo motor for drive plate rotation as a middle transferring station of preforms. In fact, if machine structure design is right, no necessary to use a middle transferring station. It wastes a servo motor, and increase a risk of out-sync with next action of preform catching, increase maintenance job.

Our machines don’t need the drive plate, preforms direct picked from preform holders to separate pitch and send to blowing mold. No waste of extra motor, simple structure means less maintenance, and no extra power consumption.

We use total 5 servo motors covered all the main motions in our CP series PET stretch blow molding machine, comparing to other manufacturers of 8 or 9 servo motors, we are with obvious advantages of faster, excellent synchronization, less maintenance, more energy saving.
